If you are wondering what to do and where to go, we have created a Must-see Brač list that will show you the best places on the island. You will not be bored, guaranteed.

Visit the old town of Supetar

When you get to Brač from Split, you will first see the port and town Supetar, the busiest point of the island and its center. It is home to one-fifth of Brač habitants and it hides many interesting sights. Do not miss the Supetar open and fish market if you want to get fresh food from the island of Brač.

Taste the best olive oil in Škrip

If you want to do a little bit of sightseeing, first we recommend you to visit the oldest place on the island, Škrip. It is three thousand years old and it is home to the Museum of the island Brač. You can also see Illyrian ruins and the fortress but also the unforgettable view of the Brač Channel. Škrip is also home to the Museum of oil where you can learn more about olive oil production and sample some of the finest olive oil in the whole of Dalmatia.

Look for the mighty Hercules in Splitska

Not so far from the village Škrip, lies a small bay Splitska. It is historically known as the port from which Brač stone was exported and used during the construction of the Diocletian's Palace in Split. Even today, if looking carefully, one can find the relief of Heracles carved into the rock, the work of one of the Diocletian's sculptors.

Learn about the stone masonry in Pučišće

If you are interested in stone masonry, then you definitely have to visit Pučišće, the second-largest settlement on the island and well known for its experts in stone, white roofs, rich history, and good food. We are convinced that you will bring one of the stone souvenirs home with you, because Pucisca, as they say, was made on the stone, by the stone, and of the stone.

Stroll through the narrow streets of Ložišće

Somewhat newer settlement on Brač, but just as magical as the rest of the island is a small village Ložišće. Full of narrow winding stone streets, it is famous for its high, decorated bell tower from the second half of the 19th century, the work of famous sculptor Ivan Rendic. Today, this village counts around 150 souls, but the tradition of Lozisca has proven to be strong - therefore the 'ancient spirit of the village' can still be felt through the numerous popular pieties.

Some adventures with a good view

If you like adventure, especially a good hike, Brač is a place where to be. It has the highest peak of all Croatian islands, as well as some other interesting hills.

Climb the highest peak of Vidova Gora

The highest peak of all Adriatic islands - Vidova Gora is 778 meters high. There are a lot of magical stories woven around this mountain. If you go through the thick pine woods, you might come across the entrance to Vicja cave which is, by legend, connected through the underground with Vicja port on the other side of the island. From the top, a beautiful view extends to the south side of the island, the Zlatni rat beach, and the islands of Vis, Hvar, and Korcula.

Walk the Procession path in Dol

Dol is a beautiful and small eco-village, famous for its well-preserved traditional stone houses and natural caves formed of the special sort of stone called “hrapoćuša”. There are many legends talking about unusual creatures living in those caves and protecting local people. From Dol starts the famous Procession path, a pilgrimage inspired by the Way of the Cross that has a long tradition on the island. It goes over the hill and it offers some of the best views of the north Brač.

Beautiful beaches you have to see

When you get tired of sightseeing and decide to go for a swim, Brač can offer you many of its beautiful and well-known beaches.

Take a swim in the famous Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) beach

On the south side of the island lies the town of Bol, the oldest place on the coast and one of the most attractive tourist destinations on the island. It is famous for its beautiful beach Zlatni Rat (often referred to as the Golden Cape or Golden Horn). It is on the top of a must-see Brač list. The beautiful pebble beach is special because the wind and the waves move its cape from one side to the other.

Build a sandcastle in Lovrečina bay

If you prefer sandy beaches, on the north side of the island, there is a deep bay of Lovrecina known for its large sandy beach and valuable archaeological sites. After hiking or swimming in the turquoise sea, you can visit the remains of the Basilica of St. Lovro from the 6th century.

If you are up for some culture and history

For those interested in history and culture, Brač can offer many interesting things to see. From old limestone structures that don’t exist anymore to long caves full of old reliefs.

Witness the history of Vapnenica

On Mlatinje hill above Pučišće, you can find Vapnenica, a true cultural heritage reconstructed by local stonework masters and volunteers. It is a limestone structure, traditionally built and burned to the ground in the process of getting lime. That means that there were no vapnenica left on the whole island, so this one stands today as a living artifact of the past.

Explore the desert in Blaca Hermitage

A very interesting place on the island, with one of the first telescopes in this area, is Blaca Hermitage. Fleeing the Turks in the 16th century, Polish priests inhabited that area and built a monastery. They established a school and educated children from the surrounding villages, planted the orchards, and built stone hives. Because of the scarce nature that surrounds the monastery, this part of Brač is considered a desert. It is a truly magical place.

Learn about Slavic mythology in Dragon’s cave

Not so far you can find a Dragon’s cave, one of the most attractive monuments depicting the desert life of the Glagolitic priests from the 15th century. The cave is twenty meters long and divided into four rooms. It is full of reliefs made in rocks that represent the life of priests in those times, and it’s rich in motifs from Slavic mythology and Christian iconography.

Cross The bridge of Francis Joseph that leads to nowhere

If you heard that Brač is a waterless island, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a bridge. There is a magnificent stone bridge, constructed during the Austrian administration, called The bridge of Francis Joseph. No water is running under, so it leaves the impression that leads from nowhere to nowhere. There is a gorge above the bridge, so it makes it a very interesting place for rock climbing.

With our Must see Brač list, you will never be bored here. Even if you don’t visit all the places at once, don’t worry because for sure you will come back again.
